It Still Works Five Years Out

There is a real problem with “scary” games. Most of them rely on cutting edge graphics to scare you(example: Dead Space). Rarely does a scary game come along that is scary, not because its gory or “gross”, but because it genuinely screws with your head. F.E.A.R. is such a game.

A Fresh and Fun Take on a classic genre

There are some games that get really repetitive; just the same thing over and over again, with very minimal effort to provide variety. Castle Crashers can certainly be one of those games at times. On the other hand, there are games that take a classic genre and add refreshing gameplay mechanics. Curiously, Castle Crashers is one of those games too.

I’ve played a lot of strange games in my time; it’s what I do, really. This is probably why I play as many Japanese RPGs as I do. They have no shortage of strangeness. The game in question this time is Shadow Hearts: Covenant, the second game in the Shadow Hearts trilogy,  and by far the weirdest one yet. This game is definitely weirder than the first game, though.

Let me start off by saying this is my probably what I’d consider to be my least favorite entry in one of my favorite RPG series. This is not to say I didn’t enjoy the game, It’s just that I enjoy other Dragon Quest games more. However, I will say that it’s good this game got a remake. This updated version fixed the one major problem I had with the original, but I’ll get to that later. The Dragon Quest series has changed very little from the first game to the most current. I really have no problem with that; after all, if its not broke, why fix it? So if you’ve played any of the other games, you pretty much know what to expect in this one.

I’m gonna be perfectly blunt about this game. Even it if makes me come off as a rabid fan.  I love this game.  It’s quite possibly the best RPG I’ve ever played. I thought Persona 3 FES was amazing. This game in my opinion blew it out of the water, which is no small feat, As Persona 3 was also a great game.
