Its Fallout 3....IN SPACE!!
So I finally got around to checking out Mothership Zeta, the final DLC episode of Fallout 3. After playing through it, I can honestly say that if I had spent money on it...I wouldn't have been disappointed. It was one of the better DLC episodes.
So while exploring the Capitol Wasteland one day you happen to hear a radio transmission that's in a strange language. After some searching you discover a strange vehicle of some kind that has crashed in the northern wastes. As you approach it, you are lifted off the ground by a strange force. Your next memory is one of aliens giving you “the probe” and then you black out, when you awake you're naked and in a cell with some other person, and decide to try and break out. This is how Mothership Zeta starts, with a pretty classic alien abduction scene.
After that, it's time to kick some alien ass. Said asskickery will not stop for a good 3-4 hours. Mothership Zeta is fairly lengthy, I'd say its probably the longest of the Fallout DLC, although probably the most linear. The story is pretty good, and you do meet some interesting characters. I won't say who or what exactly, but the aliens have been abducting people for hundreds of years, and they do have cryogenic technology.
While the aliens do have some pretty cool guns, I pretty much stuck with the weapons I'd picked up through the rest of the game. If you're in the market for some energy weapons, though...Mothership Zeta is a good place to look as pretty much every alien has an energy or plasma weapon of some kind. I didn't really pick up too many of them. When you have a gauss rifle and a tesla cannon, an alien laser rifle just doesn't seem as impressive. However, if you didn't have those, I could see how you'd want to use the alien weaponry, because their ammo is plentiful as well.
So even though I didn't get much weaponry out of it, Mothership Zeta was still a fun ride, and has a pretty awesome end. I'd say its definitely worth playing through if you have the GotY edition, and would also be worth the ten bucks if you bought it separately. It would probably be my second favorite of the Fallout 3 DLC, the first being Point Lookout. Give it a shot, you won't be disappointed.
