Final Fantasy IV: The After Years: Porom's Chapter (Nintendo Wii) PDF Print E-mail

Porom’s Chapter is one of the weakest so far.  This is primarilly due to the very confusing nature of the chapter’s plot.

Porom’s Chapter is the sixth chapter in the Final Fantasy IV: The After Years series.  It follows Porom, the white mage sister of black mage Palom, who was allready featured in episode four of the series.  The story of the chapter is told in three stages: one several years before the events of The After Years, one a few months before, and one that is occuring simultaneously with the other chapters.

And therein lies the problem with this chapter.  The three separate time periods are a little confusing.  Those who have only finished Final Fantasy IV a couple times and are on their first playthrough of The After Years could easily become confused by the timeframe of this chapter.  Also, unlike Edge’s Chapter, the previous in the series, Porom’s chapter does nothing to further the story.  Six chapters in, and we still don’t know who the main villain of the story is.

The difficulty of this chapter does seem a bit more balanced.  The designers did a good job compensating for the fact that, for allmost the entire chapter, your party consists entirely of casters.  Also, while the meta-plot of the game doesn’t advance, there are some cool plot moments in the story that make for moving dialogue.

In conclusion, I’d recommend checking out this chapter, you’ll just have to pay attention to follow the timeline.

System: Wii

Genre: RPG
Experience: Finished the Chapter
