Talkin’ some Yang

Final Fantasy IV: The After Years: Yang’s Chapter tells the story of Yang, the karate master and king of Fabul and his daughter Ursula as they struggle to uncover the truth behind a meteor landing near Fabul and the corruption of the Kingdom of Baron.  This is the third chapter in the Final Fantasy IV: The After Years collection on Wiiware.

Yang’s chapter has very few surprises if you’ve played previous episodes of The After Years.  It does, however, fix many of the problems found in Rydia’s chapter.  I was never forced to spend time level grinding, and the game moved along at a nice pace to a finish in around 3 hours.  The story, while it doesn’t get any closer to explaining exactly what is going on, does play out nice and manages to do a good job telling the story of a daughter that wants to follow in her father’s footsteps against his wishes.

There are very few problems with this chapter.  It does feel like the shortest of the chapters thus far, even though it is around the same length as Rydia’s Tale.  It also repeats a pattern in Rydia’s Tale of forcing you to do the same dungeon more than once.  I am not a fan of this in the slightest.  This chapter is also very restrictive of player movements.  There is really nothing to do besides what the designer wants you to play in the order they want you to play them.

However, I think this chapter is definitely worth the $3.00 cost of admission.  Pick it up if you get a chance.

System: WiiWare

Genre: RPG
Experience: Finished the chapter
