Same as the last release, now with a new coat of paint.

That concludes my review of Final Fantasy for the PSP. I really don't need to say more than that. Not a whole lot has changed since the last release of this game on the Gameboy Advance. Seriously though, how many times is Square planning on releasing Final Fantasy? I think it may be the most remade and released game of all time. I may have to do some research on that.

If you're one of the ten people on earth who have never played this game, here's a brief rundown. You pick a party of four “Warriors of Light” from a list of six. These include Warrior, Thief, Monk, Red Mage, White Mage, and Black Mage. Buy equipment, fight monsters, explore dungeons, class change, and save the world. It’s pretty much your typical RPG. If that sounds a bit dated in execution, just remember this originally came out in 1987, and was one of the foundation blocks of Japanese RPGs.

With each release of this game, it seems to me that it just keeps getting easier. It’s gotten to the point now where there is really no challenge at all. Those of you old enough to remember the original NES Final Fantasy probably remember how much that game kicked your ass when you were young, especially by today's game standards in which you pretty much win just by pressing the start button. The original Final Fantasy separated the men from the boys.

That’s not to say this version isn't enjoyable. I still had a lot of fun with it. It’s just one of those games I pick up every so often and play for the hell of it, experimenting with new party combinations. I've done my time with the original. I’ve beaten it a couple times, so I see nothing wrong with playing an easier version. One thing that has definitely changed for the better is the localization, and I have no complaints about that.

Really the biggest changes from the other releases are in the graphics and sound, both of which are absolutely beautiful. It is easily the best looking version of the game out there. The character sprites in battle are really pretty looking. The music, as well, is a treat for the ears. All the remixed tunes sound really nice.

So all in all, it really is a good game. It might lose some of its edge after being released so many times, but it’s still an RPG I think any fan of the genre should play. This would probably be the easiest way to do so.
